Inaugural Mayo Women's Masters Cup kicks off

FIRST round games in the inaugural Hurst Heating and Plumbing Mayo Women's Masters Cup were decided this week.

Claremorris AFC progressed as 2-0 winners over Westport United, with Snugboro FC enjoying a 3-1 win over Ballina Town at Celtic Park.

Michelle Nally gave Claremorris a first minute lead, with an OG in the 22nd minute sealing the deal for the victors.

Snugboro had two goals inside 12 minutes courtesy of Kathryn Sullivan and Maeve-Ann Gallagher. Ballina Town cut the deficit through Lorraine O'Malley-Foley on 14, with all to play for in the second half.

Only one goal followed in that half - Rosemary Lavelle on the end of an assist from Sullivan.

Next Tuesday sees a return to masters league fixtures.
