Mayo motorists urged to take care as frost and black ice risk flagged
Motorists and pedestrians across Mayo are being urged to exercise caution as Mayo County Council has warned of potentially hazardous conditions overnight and into tomorrow morning.
Weather conditions across the county are expected to mirror those experienced last night, with localised rain showers forecast throughout the night followed by frost in the early hours.
The combination is expected to lead to isolated pockets of black ice on roads and footpaths.
The local authority has confirmed that gritting crews will be deployed to treat main routes across the county.
However, drivers are being advised that not all roads can be treated and that hazardous conditions may still be present, particularly on secondary and rural routes.
Road users are being encouraged to allow extra time for journeys and to remain vigilant, especially during the morning commute.
Mayo County Council has also advised pedestrians to take care on footpaths and public areas where icy conditions may develop.
