Petition raises need for improved parking at Mayo train station
THE need to improve parking facilities at Foxford Train Station has been highlighted.
It features on the new Constituency online platform which allows members of the public raise matters with elected representatives privately or publicly and is being trialled locally in Foxford ahead of a national launch.
The petition seeking better parking for rail users sets out: 'Foxford Train Station regularly experiences a shortage of parking, particularly at peak commuting times. Despite this, there is clearly a substantial amount of unused land surrounding the station that could be used to expand the existing car park.
'The lack of available parking discourages people from using the train service, forces commuters to park unsafely or further away, and creates unnecessary frustration for local residents and visitors who rely on rail transport.
'Given the available space on site, an expansion of the car park appears both practical and achievable. Increasing parking capacity would significantly improve access to the station, support sustainable transport, and better serve the growing number of rail users in Foxford and the wider area.
'It is requested that Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann) review this issue and consider expanding the car park at Foxford Train Station to make full use of the available space and improve facilities for passengers.'
In response, Councillor Neil Cruise said he agreed with the points raised and has made representation about it previously.
He said he would make renewed efforts to try to resolve the situation by contacting Iarnród Éireann again.
