Dangerous dip on Mayo road needs immediate repair
Castlebar Councillor Harry Barrett has said that a dangerous dip on the old Westport Road needs immediate repair. The Independent Councillor said:
“I have been contacted by motorists who regularly use the old Westport Road, and they are very worried about a growing dip in the road surface. Drivers are telling me they have no choice but to drive around the dip to avoid damage to their cars. This is forcing traffic to swerve unexpectedly, and people are saying it feels dangerous, especially at busy times of the day.
“The clear message coming to me is that someone is going to be hurt if this is not dealt with quickly. The concern from road users is simple and fair.”
Councillor Barrett is calling on Mayo County Council to carry out repairs as a matter of urgency.
“This section of road should be safe to drive without having to take risks or cross out of your lane. Leaving it in its current state is not acceptable and puts motorists, cyclists and pedestrians at risk.
I am calling on Mayo County Council to carry out immediate repairs to this dip as a matter of urgency. If a full repair cannot be done straight away, then temporary works must be put in place to make the road safe without delay.”
