Mayo communities grieve death of 'wonderful lady' Kathleen Guthrie
The death of Kathleen Guthrie (née Reilly), McHale Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Shraigh, Bunnahowen, Belmullet, is deeply mourned in the community.
She died peacefully yesterday in the exceptional care of C Block and A and E at Mayo University Hospital.
Predeceased by her loving son Tomás, parents Patrick and Kathleen, sisters Sheila and Imelda, she is deeply regretted by her loving husband Kevin (former elected member of Castlebar Town Council), daughter Ashling, adored grandchildren Saoirse and Lila, brothers Michael (Castlebar), John (London), PJ (Chicago) and Edmund (Kentucky), sisters Mary O'Donnell (Shannon), Ann Lally (Killawalla), Patricia Hynes (Glenamaddy), Irene Gannon (Breaffy), Ita (Chicago) and Angela (Chicago), son-in-law Gareth, aunt Annie (Shraigh), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours, her wonderful carers and many friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved families on their loss.
A member of the staff of the former DH Burke's Supermarket at Ellison Street, Castlebar for a number of years, many warm tributes are being paid to Kathleen on social media.
One stated: "She was such an amazing person. Kathleen loved the craic and was always good for a quick comment.
"She loved her family dearly and always spoke about Tomás and Aisling. In recent years her grandchildren were her joy. Kevin gave her such attention and care."
Another said: "Kathleen was a wonderful lady, always a smile and it was a privilege to have known her."
"Truly a wonderful neighbour," a further tribute observed.
Kathleen will repose at Coady's Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Thursday from 5.30 to 7 p.m. followed by removal to her home.
Removal from her home on Friday morning at 10.30 to the Church of The Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Requiem Mass at 11.30.
Burial afterwards in the New Cemetery where Kathleen will be laid to rest with her much loved son Tomás.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
