County board reflects on outstanding year for Mayo athletics

The annual general meeting of Mayo Athletics County Board was held recently in Breaffy House Resort recently

After welcoming everyone in attendance to the meeting, chairperson Lisa Clarken stated that the 2025 season has been another outstanding year for athletics in Mayo, marked by continued growth, exceptional performances, and the unwavering commitment of volunteers and clubs.

“I am delighted to report that membership has grown once again, reaching a total of 3,187 members, reflecting the strength and vitality of athletics across the county,” said Lisa.

She thanked Westport Athletics Club for hosting the National B Cross Country Championships in Westport House in February and Lake District AC for hosting the Connacht Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships in Ballinrobe Racecourse. The success of Mayo athletics is built on the dedication of unbelievable volunteers, the chairperson continued. They are the backbone of every club, turning out in all weather, and are supported by the many non-coaching committee members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that registration, insurance, competition entries and the smooth running of the clubs is always in order.

“To each and every one of you, thank you,” said Lisa.

Special thanks was reserved for Iain Shaw for his tech-savvy commitment to event and entry systems, and to Marion McEvilly for her outstanding work with finishing systems and results.
