Mayo League Committee steps aside as Connacht FA assumes control
The entire Mayo Football League Management Committee has voluntarily stepped aside, with the Connacht Football Association taking over responsibility for running the league until a new committee is elected at an EGM.
In a letter circulated to clubs, Connacht FA chairman John Byrne said he convened a meeting of the League Management Committee in Westport on Monday night in an effort to resolve ongoing controversies within the league
The meeting, which lasted more than two hours, was attended by all members of the committee, with seven present in person and one attending remotely.
However, Mr Byrne said it became clear during discussions that no resolution could be reached to the difficulties facing the league.
“As a result, each member voluntarily agreed to step aside from their positions to facilitate the convening of an EGM,” Mr Byrne stated.
“I want to put on the record that there was no involvement from the FAI and nobody was stood down. Each member agreed to stand aside in the best interests of the Mayo League,” he said.
With the committee stepping aside, the Connacht FA will now assume responsibility for the administration of the league until an EGM can be convened and a new management committee elected with a fresh mandate.
Mr Byrne said every effort would be made to organise the EGM as soon as possible, with further correspondence to clubs promised in the coming days to confirm arrangements.
In the meantime, clubs have been assured that scheduled fixtures will continue as planned and that the day-to-day running of the league will proceed as normal.
The use of Milebush Umbro Park will also continue without disruption.
