Quads solution for gritting Mayo footpaths

A SOLUTION to address the salting of footpaths in towns has been suggested by a Castlebar councillor.

Buy quads to grit paths, making them safer and addressing a road safety issue too, Councillor Blackie Gavin has proposed.

Speaking during a lengthy debate about the recent cold snap, Councillor Gavin highlighted how many footpaths were in 'lethal' condition.

With paths slippery, people - many of them elderly - were forced to walk out on the roads, which were treated, he said. However, this created another safety issue as some weren't wearing high-vis clothing.

The council, he said, should purchase quads and use them to treat the footpaths, resolving both issues.
