Cloudy and wet start to the week in Mayo with brighter spells following

Mayo can expect a dull and damp start to Monday, January 19, with widespread cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting much of the county through the morning.

Conditions are set to improve as the day progresses, however, with the rain gradually clearing northwards during the afternoon.

Drier and brighter spells will develop later in the day, bringing some relief after a grey start.

Highest temperatures will range between 6 and 8 degrees, with mainly light north-westerly or variable winds.

The broader national outlook remains generally unsettled, with rain or showers expected most days and breezy conditions at times.

On Monday night, any lingering rain or drizzle in northern areas will clear early, giving way to a clear, cold and dry night for many parts of the country.

With light south-easterly or variable breezes, areas of fog are expected to develop.

Temperatures will fall to between -2 and +2 degrees, with patches of frost and ice forming in places.

Towards morning, further outbreaks of rain are forecast to move into the southwest, accompanied by freshening winds.
