Passing of widely popular Mayo personality Tony McDonagh is deeply mourned
The death of Anthony (Tony) McDonagh, Lightford, Castlebar, and late of Ballyloughan, Rakestreet, Crossmolina, is deeply mourned.
He died peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff in Mayo Hospice, Castlebar, surrounded by his loving family.
Widely known through his work for many years as a vet with the Department of Agriculture, he was held in high esteem by everybody who knew him.
A member of Castlebar Golf Club, his affable and courteous nature was greatly admired.
Many warm tributes are being paid to him on social media.
One stated: "A true gentleman and fond neighbour and friend."
Another said: "He was always happy to chat when you bumped into him, his joyful personality will be sadly missed."
A further tribute observed: "Tony was indeed a lovely and gentle man."
Predeceased by his parents Mattie and Mae and brother Pat, he is deeply regretted by his beloved wife Josephine, son Evin, daughter Derbhile, brother Vincent, sisters Maura (Tully, Castlerea) and Anne (Dublin), daughter-in-law Tania, partner Nicolas, treasured granddaughter Riley, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours, devoted carers and a wide circle of friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.
Tony will repose in Coady’s Funeral home, Castlebar, this evening (Sunday) from 3.30 p.m. with removal at 6 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
Requiem Mass on Monday at 11.30 a.m with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
