Over 120 housing units to break ground in north Mayo in coming months - Senator
More than 120 housing units are set to break ground in Ballina in the coming months, according to Senator Mark Duffy.
The Ballina-based Oireacthas member confirmed the development in a social media post, describing the projects as a positive step towards addressing local housing demand.
“Over 120 housing units will be breaking ground in Ballina in the coming months,” Senator Duffy said.
“A lot more needs to be done on housing but these are all positive developments, which alongside private projects will help address some of the demands that exist here.”
He acknowledged that while the developments will make a welcome contribution, further action is required to meet housing needs across the county.
Senator Duffy said he will continue to advocate for additional measures, particularly in the area of affordability.
“I look forward to continuing to campaign for more affordable housing projects and an ambitious increase in housing supply right across County Mayo,” he added.
Housing supply remains a key issue across Mayo, with sustained demand in towns such as Ballina placing pressure on both the rental and purchase markets.
Projects include the Old Duffy's bakery site on James Connolly street on the approach road into Ballina that was damaged in a blaze last July.
The Chesire home project, which will provide over 80 units on the Killala road is set to commence this March.
The Meadows development in the north of the town is also set to break ground in 2025.
