Mayo woman dealing in drugs was 'small cog in the wheel’ - court told

A THIRTY-five-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to the sale and supply of cocaine was described as a ‘small cog in the wheel’.

Natalie Jones, Deerpark East, Westport, pleaded guilty to having four small bags of cocaine which were found in her car when it was stopped and searched by gardaí.

Castlebar District Court was told that the defendant’s car was stopped at Deerpark East on December 31, 2024, by gardai and a search was carried out.

Four small ‘deal bags ‘containing cocaine valued at €220 were found during the search of the car.

The defendant accepted full responsibility for being in possession of the drugs and also admitted she had them for supplying to others.

Mr. Gary Mulchrone, solicitor for the defendant, said his client was really a ‘small cog in the wheel’ and was no longer involved with drugs or the people that were using them.

He also added that his client had no previous convictions for drug-related matters.

He said his client had some debt issues to sort out and became involved with drugs for only a brief period.

“She is no longer involved in drugs in any way and is in fact planning to get married this year,” said Mr. Mulchrone.

Judge Vincent Deane said in light of the small quantity of drugs involved and the fact that the defendant had no previous convictions related to drugs, a probation report might be appropriate in the circumstances.

He adjourned his decision in the case to the court sitting on March 4 next.
