Fond tributes to former Mayo County Council staff member

The death has occurred unexpectedly, yet peacefully, of Teresa Melia, Derrygaury, Foxford.

A retired member of the staff of Mayo County Council, she was held in high regard in the community at large.

During her many years with the council, she was attached to the accounts department at its headquarters in Castlebar before moving to the area offices in Swinford and Ballina.

Many fond tributes are being paid to her on social media.

One stated: "She was such a beautiful, full of life person. She was so kind.

"The world is a lesser place because she is no longer in it."

Another said: "She will be very fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of meeting her in this life."

Teresa was predeceased by her parents John and Delia, her brother in-law Tony Benson and her nephew in-law Shane Brennan

She will be sadly missed by her brother Martin, sisters Mary, Anne and Bernie, her sister in-law Ann, brother in-law Diarmuid and by her dear friend Pat Diamond, her niece, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, nieces in-law, friends, neighbours and by a wide circle of former and present work colleagues, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Teresa will rest in repose at Clarke's Funeral Home, Foxford, this evening (Wednesday) from 6 pm with removal at 7.30 p.m. to St. Michaels Church, Foxford, arriving at 7.45 p.m.

Funeral Mass takes place on Thursday at 11 a.m. prior to burial in Craggagh Cemetery.
