Major investment in new Mayo outdoor sports facility being progressed

A number of Part 8 planning applications are progress in the Castlebar Municipal District.

The list includes the new outdoor sports campus at Knockaphunta, Westport Road, Castlebar.

A new Part 8 application is being drafted to reflect amendments to the Part 8 plans granted in 2012. It is expected it will be published in mid-February.

The other investment projects are as follows:

An extension at Keelogues Cemetery: The notice was published on November 4 last and submissions closed December 12.

The application will be considered at the January meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.

Proposed construction of 13 dwellings together with all associated site development works at 3 – 6, Ellison Street, Castlebar: The notice was published on the January 6 with submissions closing on February 18.

It is planned to bring this matter to the February meeting of the municipal district, but this is subject to the submissions received and reports.

Proposed change of façade to Annex building at Aras an Chontae, The Mall, Castlebar: The proposal is part of the planned energy retrofitting works across the Aras campus and includes an alteration of façade from metal cladding to a rendered and painted finish to accommodate external insulation.

The notice was published on January 20 and submissions are closing on March 4.

Proposed columbarium wall in the Castlebar Cemetery: This notice will be published on January 27 next.

Commenting on the developments, Councillor Donna Sheridan said: “I welcome these Part 8 applications, which reflect continued investment in housing, community facilities, burial grounds, sustainability, and recreational infrastructure across the Castlebar Municipal District.

"It is important that the public are aware of the consultation timelines and have the opportunity to engage with each proposal.

“I sincerely thank the staff of Mayo County Council and the Castlebar Municipal District for their ongoing hard work in preparing, managing and progressing these Part 8 processes.

"Their commitment ensures transparency, public engagement and the steady delivery of important local projects.”

Councillor Sheridan encouraged members of the public to review the plans and make submissions within the relevant consultation periods, noting that public participation plays a vital role in shaping local development.

Councillor Ger Deere said the projects represented a significant investment in Castlebar and its environs.
