WORK has started on the construction of a new cemetery at Mayo Abbey.
Construction is also well underway on the county's first Columbarium wall at St. Tiernan's Cemetery in Crossmolina.
Both facilities are due to be completed early this year.
Part 8 planning applications for two upgrades of facilities in the Castlebar Municipal District are also being progressed, with the investment welcomed by local Councillor Donna Sheridan.
In respect of the Keelogues Graveyard extension, public consultation took place before Christmas and the proposal will be considered at the January Municipal District meeting.
A Part 8 planning application for a new Columbarium wall at Castlebar Cemetery is due to be published on January 27.
