Wet and blustery start to the week for Mayo

The county can expect a cloudy and wet start to the week on Monday, January 26, with rain and drizzle widespread throughout the day.

Rain will be heavy at times, with further showery outbreaks feeding in from the west through the evening.

Daytime temperatures will remain low, reaching highs of just 4 to 6 degrees, accompanied by mostly fresh south-easterly winds that may be occasionally gusty.

According to the national outlook, areas of low pressure will continue to dominate the weather pattern into next week, bringing further unsettled conditions.

It will be cold and breezy at times, with additional bands of heavy rain expected, and the possibility of wintry conditions developing at times.

Monday night will see a band of persistent rain, heavy in places, lingering over eastern and north-eastern counties initially.

Elsewhere, clearer and drier conditions will gradually take hold as the rain clears, allowing frost and icy patches to form overnight.

Temperatures will fall to between -2 and +1 degrees in cold and calm conditions, with motorists and pedestrians advised to take care where surfaces become icy.
