Mayo charity shop asks locals to support nationwide movement

Castlebar’s Enable Ireland Shop is asking locals to join a nationwide movement entitled ‘Break Up With Your Stuff’ and donate pre-loved items to support vital services for people with disabilities.

This February, the Enable Ireland shop on 2 Market Square, Castlebar, is taking a cheeky twist on the Valentine's theme. From Valentine's Day (February 14) to Saturday, February 21, Enable Ireland shops across the country are aiming to create Ireland’s biggest breakup. They are encouraging the public to declutter their homes and ‘break up with their stuff.’

All high-quality items donated will support Enable Ireland, which provides services to over 13,000 children and adults with disabilities.

Enable Ireland hopes that hundreds of Castlebar locals will finally break up with pre-loved items that they’ve been holding on to but no longer use. Enable Ireland will help these quality items find love again when sold. All profits from items donated to Enable Ireland support disability services, including vital therapy and support services.

To soften the break-up blow, Enable Ireland Shops are also offering an extra incentive: Donors simply need to come into the shop with a donation and tell staff they want to break up with their stuff. In return, they’ll receive €5.00 off when they spend over €25 in store.

Oonagh O’Connor, Commercial Manager at Enable Ireland, said:

“We all have items we know we’ve been holding onto for far too long. Clothes, accessories, and other items that are still in great condition but, if we’re honest, we know we’ll never use again. That’s why we’re asking the public to break up with them this Valentine's!

‘Go through your wardrobes, kitchen presses, and chest of drawers. What may no longer have use for you could be exactly what someone else is looking for. We’ll help your donations find the perfect match, and you’ll help raise funds to benefit our vital services.”

Enable Ireland is accepting donations of high-quality items at their store on 2 Market Square, Castlebar. Members of the public can also donate to one of the charities’ 174 textile banks located across the country. Alternatively, to any TK Maxx store nationwide, or directly into any Enable Ireland charity shop.

Enable Ireland loves to accept donations of clean, good-quality clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories. They also accept towels, linens, homeware, and glassware, as well as collectables, books, loose toys and unwanted gifts.

Unfortunately, the charity cannot accept donations of electrical items, dirty or soiled items and neither broken items, mattresses, duvets or pillows. This is due to the high cost of disposal.

The Enable Ireland Charity shop on 2 Market Square, Castlebar, helps the public fall in love with second-hand items all year round. It offers a wealth of preloved treasures, from designer clothes and handbags to trendy shoes and accessories. They also sell classic books, beautiful homewares and more.
