Disappointment in Mayo county town as mini-marathon moves again
THE moving of the west of Ireland mini-marathon from Castlebar to Ballina this summer has led to 'disappointment' in the county town.
Councillor Donna Sheridan has been a long-term advocate for keeping the event in Castlebar, where it began, but it's making a return to north Mayo this May.
She told a municipal district meeting it was 'really disappointing' to see the marathon going back to Ballina.
Councillor Sheridan had questions about the event. She said an expression of interest was put out to the districts, and they had to fill out a form and send it back. But what expression of interest did they put out for the sponsors, she asked.
The event has been sponsored by the Western People and she wanted to know what expression of interest was put out for sponsors and also the financial contribution of the sponsors.
She told management that she wanted to know what the process was, given that there was a detailed process for the municipal district.
