Minister moves to resolve east Mayo water supply disruption

Mayo Minister Dara Calleary has confirmed that he has been in contact with Úisce Éireann in relation to the ongoing issue affecting the water supply in the Lavallyroe/Johnstown area of Ballyhaunis.

He stated: “I have been made aware of the issues affecting the Johnstown Lavallyroe Group Water Scheme since connection to the public supply some five months ago.

"It is quite clear that there is an issue with the infrastructure – I am informed by local knowledge that the pipe is approximately 60 years told.

"This is unsustainable and frequent bursts and disruption to supply can only be expected to continue until such time as the mains is upgraded.

“I want to assure the local community that I am liaising with Úisce Éireann and the department in relation to the scheme with a view to an urgent upgrade of the mains being sanctioned and carried out.”
