Utility companies called out over manhole hazards in Mayo

UTILITY companies who don't reinstate manholes properly have been taken to task by Councillor Ger Deere.

He cited examples in Ballyvary, for instance, which are creating a hazard for cyclists, pedestrians and people in cars.

When they put down manholes or chambers they don't finish around them, Councillor Deere told a municipal meeting, and it's left up to the council to carry the cost of repairs.

It's going on for years and he called out Eircom for how they left the manholes in Ballyvary.

When are the council going to start clamping down on utility companies, he asked at local municipal district meeting, telling council management it's time to 'get tough'.
