Death of 'great character' Sean Neary mourned in Mayo

The death has occurred unexpectedly of Sean Neary, Rowan Drive, Castlebar, and formerly of Magherafadda, Ballyheane.

The news has evoked a tremendous sense of loss and sorrow in the district.

He was dearly loved husband of Caroline (née McLoughlin) and loving father of Serena, Karen and Sarah, to whom heartfelt sympathy is tendered.

Sean will also be deeply regretted by his grandchildren Byron and his partner Becca, Kyle, Ayla, Emily, Owen and Sean, sons-in-law Geoffrey Bourke, Kieran Biggins and Geoffrey Conboy, brothers Peter, Mattie, Seamus and Tom, his sisters-in-law Jenny, Martina, Veronica, Maria, Chrisy and Joan, brothers-in-law Tommy, John, Benny and Dick, all the family circle, relations and many friends.

Sean was predeceased by his parents James and Kathleen (née Corley) Neary, Magherafadda, Ballyheane, his sister -in-law Geraldine and his nephews Gerard, Eric and Lee.

Sean had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and enjoyed many long road trips with his friends over the years.

Social media tributes have described him as 'one of a kind, a true gentleman and a great character who leaves behind many happy memories'.

Sean will repose at his home at 71 Rowan Drive, Castlebar, tomorrow (Tuesday) from 4 to 7 p.m.

House is private outside of reposing times, except for close family and friends.

The funeral will arrive at St. Patrick’s Church, Ballyheane, on Wednesday for Funeral Mass at 11.30 a.m.

Afterwards, Sean will be laid to rest in Ballyheane Cemetery.
