A telecoms line, tied up last year, away from the road where it lay fallen. A year on and it's still tied to a bush.

Phone lines on ground in Mayo a year on from Storm Éowyn

A YEAR on from Storm Éowyn and telecoms lines are still lying on the ground in parts of Mayo.

They were highlighted by councillors in west Mayo at a municipal meeting.

Westport Councillor Johnny O'Malley wondered why they are still on the ground 12 months on, some along main roads.

They pose a danger, he said, for people on bikes or walking, who might get caught up in them.

Poles lying at 45 degrees, or split in two, were another issue raised by Councillor Chris Maxwell.

They had made representations but nothing is being done, he said.

“Can we get them tidied up and finished with,” he asked.

Members were told the eir lines are still operational connectivity-wise and members were urged to contact the council's broadband officer if they see a hazard so he can report it back.
