Man arrested and charged following graffiti spree in Mayo

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of criminal damage incidents involving graffiti in Westport town in late June 2025, gardaí have confirmed.

The vandalism, which drew strong community concern at the time, occurred across multiple locations including the Altamount Street area of Westport between the nights of June 24 and June 25, 2025.

An Garda Síochána said the suspect is “due to appear before Castlebar District Court later this month” in relation to the Westport offences.

Superintendent Deirdre Gill acknowledged the work of the gardai involved in the investigation and thanked local residents for their cooperation and assistance.

An Garda Síochána has said it “will not be commenting further on the case”, as the matter is now before the courts.
