Sewerage capacity hampering construction of new homes in west Mayo town

THE sewerage system in Louisburgh needs an upgrade to facilitate the construction of new homes.

The population is growing and there is a housing shortage, with the need for more homes to be built. But hands are tied by the sewerage system, which needs to be upgraded.

The issue was raised by Councillor Chris Maxwell at municipal level who said the existing system is a long time there and has done its job, but now it's not fit for purpose.

He believed they may have lost their blue flag at Carrowmore beach because of it, he stated

The Independent Ireland councillor asked Mayo County Council to emphasise to Uisce Éireann the importance of getting the system upgraded.

“Development cannot continue at the pace needed in Louisburgh with the system at full capacity,” commented Councillor Maxwell.
