Option to tax car for multiple years suggested by Mayo councillor

IT should be possible to tax your car for a multiple of years, a Mayo councillor has suggested.

You renew your passport or driving licence for a multiple of years, so why not have the option to do it for car tax, Councillor Al McDonnell has asked.

It would make sense to be able to do it for up to five years, he said at a municipal district meeting. And he asked that contact be made with the relevant department.

Another amendment to the payment scheme was suggested by Councillor Harry Barrett for people who tax their vehicle for a portion of the year.

If you pay tax for three or six months you are penalised, as you end up paying more over the year, and that's not fair, he said.

If you cannot pay for the year you shouldn't be penalised, said Councillor Barrett.
