Westport girls book place in Connacht Under 18 Cup final

WESTPORT United secured their place in the Connacht Under 18 Girls Cup final last night.

Playing at home, United saw off the challenge of Dunmore Town on an 8-1 scoreline. And for the second Friday night running, Saoirse Reynolds proved to be super sub, netting half of the scores.

It was all even at half-time, with Westport opening up an early lead on eight minutes through Katie Hughes, and Dunmore getting an equaliser approaching half-time.

But two early goals on the restart from Katie Maloney (48 minutes) and Hughes again just a minute later put a dent in their visitors aspirations.

Her half-hour on the pitch was productive for Reynolds, with four goals, including one from the penalty spot. And Lauren Maloney also got her name on the scoresheet on 77 minutes in what was a superb team performance by the west Mayo side.

It could yet be an all-Mayo final with Ballyglass FC playing Arrow Harps in the second semi-final. That game is scheduled for March 1.
