Mayo remains Ireland’s dereliction capital

Mayo has once again been confirmed as the county with the highest concentration of derelict properties in Ireland, according to the latest GeoDirectory Residential Buildings Report.

The data shows that around 14.1% of all derelict residential buildings in the State are located in Mayo, keeping the county at the top of the national list.

2,741 derelict buildings are believed to have postal addresses in the county, with only 287 derelict sites listed on the local authorities register.

Donegal follows with just over 11.5% of derelict properties, and Galway ranks third at approximately 8.9% of the national total.

By contrast, counties at the other end of the scale, such as Carlow and Wicklow record some of the lowest rates of dereliction in the country.
