North Mayo set for laughs as Lahardane drama group adds extra show
Lahardane Drama Group are gearing up for a big local production after announcing an additional performance date for their latest play.
Due to phenomenal demand, the group has added an extra show for its performance of Jimmy Keary's riproaring comedy play "Finders Keepers" on Thursday, February 26.
It will be the first Thursday night performance in the drama group’s third year on stage.
The production will now run over four nights, with performances on Thursday, February 26, Friday, February 27, Saturday February 28 and Sunday, March 1.
The additional dates will give more people the chance to enjoy what promises to be an entertaining and laughter-filled night's entertainment.
Finders Keepers centres on Bernie Bennett, a hard-working single farmer in her forties who has been involved in a relationship of convenience with local farmer Michael Kennedy. However, Bernie is now looking for a more serious commitment, something Michael is reluctant to provide.
As Michael continues to dither, Bernie begins to fall under the spell of the well-to-do and charming Sam Cullen, a man Michael strongly dislikes. The more Michael attempts to steer Bernie away from Sam, the more she is drawn towards him, leading to growing tensions and plenty of comedic twists.
The situation is further complicated by Bernie’s flirtatious and man-mad half-sister Shelagh Flaherty, who is living with her and adds further fuel to the fire as relationships become increasingly tangled.
With a colourful cast of characters including a fiery wife, a solicitor, friends, siblings and fellow farmers, Finders Keepers is set to deliver a lively mix of rural romance, jealousy and humour.
The characters include:
Bernie Bennett – a hard-working single farmer
Shelagh Flaherty – Bernie’s flirtatious half-sister
Michael Kennedy – a local farmer with an eye for Bernie
Sam Cullen – a well-to-do farmer who catches Bernie’s attention
Mark Costello – a solicitor and one of Shelagh’s many admirers
Brenda Costello – Mark’s fiery wife
Kay Carroll – a friend of Brenda’s
Paddy Molloy – an older farmer and friend of Michael’s
Sharon O’Rourke – Michael’s sour sister
With four nights now scheduled, Lahardane Drama Group’s latest production looks set to be another popular success for the local stage.
