Experience joy and colour of Petrykivka painting at Mayo workshop
THE Linenhall in Castlebar is set to host a truly distinctive creative experience with a two-part workshop celebrating Petrykivka painting, a vibrant Ukrainian folk decorative art form recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Rich in colour and symbolism, Petrykivka painting is best known for its expressive floral motifs, but it also features birds, animals, people, houses and imaginative, fantastical elements that together create a joyful and uplifting visual language.
Designed to be welcoming and accessible, these hands-on workshops invite participants to explore traditional Petrykivka techniques, colours and patterns in a relaxed and friendly setting. Whether you are an experienced artist or someone who has never picked up a paintbrush before, you are warmly encouraged to take part.
The Beauty of Ukrainian Folk Art: Petrykivka Painting Workshop takes place over two meetings. Tutors Victoriia Filipovska and Svitlana Frankova will offer step-by-step guidance throughout the process.
Participants will learn traditional ornamental painting techniques and create their own artwork to take home. The sessions will be conducted in English, with Ukrainian translation available if needed.
As the creative process is highly visual and intuitive, everything is easy to follow, even without words. No prior experience is required.
Discover the colourful world of Petrykivka painting in this enjoyable two-part workshop taking place on Saturday, February 28, and Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The admission fee, which covers both workshops, is €40 and includes all art materials. A discount is available for people fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
