Mayo senator welcomes short-term letting agreement

Senator Mark Duffy has welcomed an agreement by government that the new short-term letting restrictions will only apply to populations of over 20,000, which will protect the Mayo tourism industry which is a vital part of the Mayo economy.

Senator Duffy stated that new regulations need to strike the right balance in relation to increasing housing supply and will also not negatively impact the tourism sector, and he believes that this measure achieves it.

Initially the restriction was set to cover towns with a population of 10,000.

Senator Duffy stated he has been inundated with phone calls and visits to his constituency office with people who would have been affected negatively by the initial proposed changes, and the Ballina Senator is glad to receive confirmation following persistent advocacy on this issue.
