ATU secures ‘TrustEd Ireland’ international quality mark

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has secured the ‘TrustEd Ireland’ mark (formally International Education Mark), following a national quality assurance process led by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

The official launch of TrustEd Ireland by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, signalled a new era for Irish higher education.

TrustEd Ireland is a national quality mark that recognises institutions demonstrating excellence in the experience, protection, and support of international students. It confirms strong governance, compliance with QQI’s statutory Code of Practice, and ethical recruitment practices.

Reflecting on the achievement, Dr. Orla Flynn, President of ATU, said:

“Securing the TrustEd Ireland mark is an important endorsement of ATU’s commitment to quality and care for our international students. It signals to students and partners worldwide that ATU is a trusted provider of high-quality education and a safe, supportive environment for learners from across the globe.”

Dr. Billy Bennett, Registrar and Chief Academic Officer, added:

“This award reflects the dedication of our staff and the robustness of our systems. TrustEd Ireland strengthens ATU’s global reputation and opens doors for new collaborations and growth in international student recruitment.”

The TrustEd Ireland mark is more than a symbol—it provides assurance to students, families, and governments worldwide that Irish institutions meet the highest standards for quality and student protection.

John Andy Bonar,VP ATU Global added:

“For ATU, this achievement is significant on many levels. It builds trust and confidence globally by confirming compliance with national regulations and ethical recruitment practices. Not only does it strengthen Ireland’s reputation as a world-class education destination, it also elevates ATU’s international profile, making it easier to establish trusted partnerships and to attract international students to ATU from across the world.”

ATU’s attainment of TrustEd Ireland involved a comprehensive institutional review, culminating in a formal submission to QQI in March 2025. An international expert panel assessed ATU against the TrustEd Ireland Higher Education Code of Practice, ultimately recommending approval for ATU to display the TrustEd Ireland quality mark.

The launch of TrustEd Ireland heralded a new era of transparency, quality, and trust for international learners choosing Irish institutions.
