Mayo Gardaí clamp down on speeding and uninsured driving
Gardaí in Mayo have issued fines and penalty points following a speeding incident and a separate detection of an uninsured vehicle.
In a post on social media, the Mayo Roads Policing Unit said officers carried out a speed checkpoint today between Knock and Ballyhaunis, where a car was detected travelling at 128km/h in an 80km/h zone.
When the vehicle was stopped, gardaí also noticed an “extremely worn” front tyre.
Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs), which include penalty points and fines, were issued to the driver in relation to the road traffic offences.
In a separate incident, gardaí said their Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system detected a vehicle with no insurance.
The vehicle was stopped and subsequently impounded, with the driver now set to face court proceedings.
