Frosty start before heavy rain and possible sleet for Mayo on Saturday
Tomorrow will begin cold, dry and bright across Mayo, with widespread frost and icy patches making for hazardous conditions early in the morning.
Cloud will thicken from the Atlantic during the morning of Saturday, February 14, with rain spreading northeastwards across the county through the afternoon and evening.
The rain is expected to turn heavy in places, and there is also the possibility of sleet or wet snow for a time, particularly on higher ground, before turning back to rain later.
Afternoon temperatures will remain low, reaching just 2 to 5 degrees, though conditions are expected to turn milder from the southwest after dark.
Winds will start off light from the south, but it will become windy as the rain arrives, with fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds developing.
Nationally, the outlook remains unsettled, with rain at times turning wintry.
Saturday night will be wet and windy for a time, with spells of heavy rain continuing and the chance of sleet or snow for a period, particularly in northern and eastern areas.
Clear spells and scattered showers will follow from the west overnight. Temperatures will fall to between 0 and 5 degrees, with southeasterly winds veering westerly and easing as the rain clears.
