Widely popular Mayo man Ned Murren celebrates a great occasion
by Mike Byrne
Heartiest congratulations are in order to popular Ballyhaunis man Eamon (Ned)) Murren, who has celebrated the great occasion of his 70th birthday.
Ned, of Upper Main Street, was a member of the teaching staff of St. Gerald's College in Castlebar for several years having completed his Leaving Cert examination with flying colours at St. Patrick's College, Ballyhaunis, in 1974 and later going on to graduate from University College Galway, where he obtained his BComm and masters degree in education.
A long time member of Ballyhaunis GAA Club, Ned has dedicated a lifetime of service to the local club as player, mentor, coach and dedicated supporter.
He is an expert on matters of Gaelic football matters going back over several decades, and continues to lend his support to the running and development of the local club.
A fine singer too, he has been a dedicated member of the Ballyhaunis Abbey Male Choir since its inception back in 1991, performing with them one Sunday each month in the local parish church, as well as at the odd wedding during the year.
A most popular gentleman throughout the town, Ned is indeed a man of many talents and can always be called upon to assist at any local event, especially compiling questions for many of the local fundraising quizzes in the town as well as pulling pints and entertaining the customers in some of the local taverns.
We take the opportunity of congratulating Ned on reaching this milestone, and I know that his many friends in both Ballyhaunis and Castlebar, which was home to him for so many decades, will join in wishing their friend well on this occasion and health and happiness in the years ahead.
