Cold Tuesday for Mayo with frost early and rain arriving later
Mayo is set for a cold day with frost and lingering icy patches possible during the morning.
Tuesday, February 17 will start generally dry with hazy sunshine, but cloud will steadily thicken from the southwest as the day progresses.
There is a chance of patchy light rain or drizzle reaching parts of south Connaught, including southern areas of Mayo, by late evening.
Winds will be light and variable early on but will strengthen through the day, becoming moderate to fresh easterly, and strong along exposed coastal areas.
Highest temperatures will remain low, reaching just 3 to 5 degrees.
Nationally, conditions are expected to remain generally unsettled with rain and showers.
While it will stay cold in the short term, milder weather is forecast to develop from Friday onwards.
Tuesday night will turn wet and rather windy, with rain spreading northeastwards across the country.
There is also the possibility of sleet for a time, with snow possible on higher ground.
Overnight temperatures will range between 0 and 5 degrees, though it will become milder in the southwest later, with fresh to strong east to southeast winds.
