Good buying for heavy bullocks at Mayo sale

BALLA Mart saw a good number of Angus bullocks on offer this week, with a fine clearance across the board.

A nice selection of heavy bullocks saw good buying by northern factory buyers.

Average prices in the bullocks were: 300kg to 400kg €5.13/kg; 400kg to 500kg €4.43/kg; 500kg plus €4.13/kg.

Top bullock prices included: 395kg CHX €2,460 (€6.23/kg); 450kg LMX €2,480 (€5.51/kg); 595kg CHX €2,760 (€4.63/kg); 685kg LMX €3,050 (€4.45/kg); 735kg LMX €3,150 (€4.29/kg); 845kg AAX €3,500 (€4.14/kg).

Heifers 300kg - 400kg averaged €4.30/kg, those 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.37/kg, and heifers 500kg plus averaged €4.48/kg.

Best in the heifers a two-year-old Limousin that made €4,100. Other heifer prices included: 275kg CH €1,450 (€5/kg); 305kg CHX €1,870 (€6.13/kg); 395kg LMX €2,180 (€5.52/kg); 485kg LM €2,560 (€5.28/kg); 535kg LMX €3,650 (€6.82/kg); 630kg LMX €4,100 (€6.51/kg).

Dry cows 500kg plus averaged €3.58/kg.

There were 116 cows for the third ring with 20 weighing in excess of 800kg that were pushed on greatly by online northern factory bidders who kept it lively. The tops was a four-year-old dry cow weighing 910kg that made €3,690.

Best in the springers was a three-year-old Belgian Blue - time up February 28 - that was bought online for €4,850.
