Public meeting on ACRES impact and farming on Achill

THE Achill IFA branch will host an important public meeting on Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m. sharp in Ted’s function room, Cashel, Achill, to discuss the ongoing impact of ACRES and related farming and peatland measures on Achill farmers and the wider community.

Senior IFA policy executive Shane Whelan and the IFA's Connaught regional chairman, and former IFA national livestock chairman, Brendan Golden, will attend the meeting and address local concerns.

The event will provide farmers with a vital opportunity to hear directly from senior IFA representatives, to ask questions, and to outline the very real effects ACRES scoring, commonage assessments, peatland designations, and landscape actions are having on farm families locally.

This is an open meeting, and all farmers - both IFA members and non-members - are strongly encouraged to attend. The issues involved are of major importance, not only for individual farm incomes, but for the future of farming and rural life on Achill.

Achill IFA emphasises that this is a key opportunity for local farmers to ensure their voices are heard and represented at national level.

Achill IFA is urging farmers to attend in strong numbers, as the outcome of these discussions will be important in shaping the future of farming in the parish and island areas.
