Crews continue works to repair Mayo county town burst

Uisce Éireann crews continue to work to restore normal supply to customers in Castlebar impacted by disruptions to their water supply.

Crews are working to repair the main which burst at the Breaffy Road area of the town earlier today. Repairs are proving difficult and in order for the works to be completed safely, it will be necessary to temporarily shut off supply of water to some areas of the town from 6 p.m. this evening.

Customers in the Moneen and Breaffy Road areas, including the residential areas of Ashwood and The Cedars, will be affected. Customers in Breaffy village may also be affected.

Colette Scahill of Uisce Éireann said that every effort will be made to restore normal supply as quickly as possible once repairs have been successfully completed.

“This has proven to be a more significant and complex burst than first anticipated, and in order for it to be repaired, we will need to temporarily shut off supply to some customers,” said Colette.

“We acknowledge the difficulty that unplanned outages such as these can cause and we want to thank impacted residents and businesses for their understanding as we work to restore normal supply.”
