Broken playground equipment leaving Mayo families frustrated
"IT'S simply not good enough that key playground equipment in Castlebar has been left broken for months, with no clear timeline for repairs." This is according to Independent Councillor Harry Barrett.
Councillor Barrett was contacted by a parent who outlined that the baby swing at the Lough Lannagh playground by the graveyard has been broken since before Christmas. They were assured at the time that it would be fixed quickly, but it remains out of action.
The same parent also pointed out that swings are now broken at the playground in front of the swimming pool.
For pre-walkers, the baby swing is often the only suitable equipment, and with most of them unusable, parents feel they are being left with very little, he said.
The trampoline at the lake is also broken again and, according to the parent, seems to be out of use more often than working.
Councillor Harry Barrett has sought an urgent update from Mayo County Council on when these repairs will be completed, saying families in Castlebar deserve safe and properly maintained facilities for their children.
