Mayo country market to close after four decades
AFTER operating for nearly four decades, Westport Country Market has announced it is closing.
The announcement was made on the group's social media at the weekend where they thanked customers for their loyal support over the years.
Westport Country Markets, in a statement, explained: 'We regret to inform all our valued customers and friends that we are closing for good.
'After much thought and discussion it is no longer viable to keep the market going. This is due to many reasons, namely lack of committed producers, retirees, ageism, etc.
'Thank you all for your support over 39 wonderful years.
'Thanks to St. Anne's Boxing Club for their support and also to Deirdre Rosenkranz of the Railway for her support during the Covid era.'
The weekly market showcased a range of local produce, food and crafts.
The reaction on social media was one of sorrow at the end of an era for the town, and also thanks for the many happy memories created over the years.
The producers were wished well for the future and thanked for their dedication and commitment over the years.
