Death of former Mayo court clerk mourned
JOHN Healy, a central figure in the running of court services in Mayo for many years, has died.
Mr. Healy, of Glendawn, Rathbawn Road, Castlebar, a retired District Court clerk, died peacefully in the exceptional care of the staff in Mayo University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
As chief clerk of the Castlebar District Court Office, Mr. Healy served with integrity, honesty and commitment for 38 years. He retired in 2005.
He was held in great respect by everyone who worked with him, judges, solicitors, An Garda Síochána, Probation Service, the Press, his colleagues in the Courts Service, and also court users.
His help and advice was always forthcoming for officials of the court, and his good working relationship with local journalists was much appreciated in ensuring proper and accurate reporting of the courts.
Outside of work, John was a loving family man, knowledgeable and good company, and he was fondly held in the community as a true gentleman.
Predeceased by his parents John and Annie and brother-in-law Tom, he is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Teresa, sons Mark and Adrian, sister Eileen (Connolly, Claremorris), brother Willie (Healy, Barnacarroll, Knock), grandchildren Seán and Avril, Adrian’s partner Zigrida, Seán’s partner Andreea, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephew, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends, to whom sympathy is extended on their loss.
John will repose in Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Monday (March 2) from 5 p.m., with removal at 7 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
Requiem Mass is on Tuesday morning at 11.30 a.m. He will be laid to rest afterwards in Castlebar New Cemetery.
