Wet and windy weekend ahead for county Mayo
MAYO faces a wet and windy weekend, with unsettled conditions set to carry into the opening days of meteorological spring.
Saturday will begin on a grey note, with cloud and showery outbreaks of rain spreading in from the Atlantic during the morning.
However, there will be some relief later in the day as a clearance brings sunny spells during the afternoon.
Highest temperatures will reach between 6 and 10 degrees, with moderate to fresh southerly winds strengthening for a time along coastal areas.
Saturday night will turn wet and windy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the southwest early in the night before becoming widespread.
Overnight temperatures will fall to between 3 and 7 degrees in moderate to fresh southeasterly winds, stronger along the Atlantic coasts.
Sunday, March 1, marks the start of meteorological spring, and it will be a wet and rather windy one for Mayo.
Outbreaks of rain are expected to turn heavy at times, particularly in the southwest and west of the county, with some spot flooding possible.
Highest temperatures will reach 10 to 12 degrees, but fresh to strong southerly winds will make it feel raw, with near gale to gale force conditions expected in coastal parts.
The outlook will improve as Sunday night progresses, with the rain clearing eastwards and winds easing to light to moderate.
Lowest temperatures overnight will fall to between 2 and 6 degrees.
Looking ahead, the county can expect a more mixed picture as the new week gets under way, with temperatures around average or slightly above for the time of year.
