Warm tributes to Trojan Mayo charity volunteer Mary Solan

The death of Mary Solan (née Callaghan), Curry, Castlebar, and formerly of Lisdaly, Belmont, Co. Offaly, is deeply mourned.

She died peacefully at the Sonas Nursing Home, Knock.

Mary will be sadly missed by her son Patrick, daughters Michael and Anne, sister Elizabeth Grimes (Noel) Killarney, sisters-in-law Betty Solan and Greta (Tom) Callaghan, brother-in-law Dudley Solan, her godchild Patricia and nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

She predeceased by her husband Gerry, her parents Ellen (née Doyle) and Patrick Callaghan and her brothers Tom and Pat.

Fond tributes are being paid to a lovely woman who was involved in many charitable organisations in Castlebar over many years.

One stated: "She was a real lady and always a pleasure to meet.

"Mary will be remembered for her kindness and her Trojan charity work, always performed quietly.

"Compassion, care and good humour are traits that Mary will be remembered for."

Another said: Mary was a wonderful lady, full of kindness, who cared so much for her family."

A further tribute observed: "She was always a lovely, friendly, cheerful person - and a very helpful lady volunteering her time for charity work."

Mary was a former lady president of Castlebar Golf Cub (2011) and she also had a long association with Castlebar Bridge Club.

The bereaved family has extended a special thanks to Regina, Mercy and staff of the Sacred Heart Hospital Day Care Castlebar and staff of Marian House and staff of Sonas Nursing Home.

Mary will repose at the Mortuary at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, today (Sunday) from 4.30 p.m. with removal at 6 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary Castlebar.

Funeral Mass on Monday at 11 a.m. with the funeral proceeding to High Street Cemetery, Belmont, Co. Offaly, arriving for prayers and blessing at 3 p.m.
