Dry and sunny Tuesday ahead after frosty start for Mayo
Mayo is set to enjoy a bright and settled day tomorrow, as high pressure continues to exert its influence across the country.
After a cold and frosty start to the morning on Tuesday, March 3, conditions will quickly improve with plenty of sunshine developing through the day. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb to between 9 and 11 degrees in light to moderate variable breezes, mainly from an easterly or southeasterly direction.
The settled spell comes as Ireland remains largely under the influence of high pressure for much of the week.
While there will be some outbreaks of showers or rain at times — most notably on Thursday when a weather front is forecast to push through — the overall picture is for a good deal of dry weather.
Temperatures are forecast to remain around average, or slightly above average, for early spring, with some particularly pleasant sunny spells expected.
However, clear nights will bring the risk of frost in places.
On Tuesday night, it will remain dry with mostly clear skies at first. Frost will become fairly widespread for a time, especially in inland areas.
As the night progresses, low cloud is expected to extend northwards from the south, bringing mist and fog patches and possibly a few spots of light rain or drizzle.
Lowest temperatures early in the night will range from 0 to 5 degrees, with the mildest conditions along southern and eastern coastal areas. Winds will remain light to moderate from the southeast.
Motorists are advised to take care during the early morning and overnight hours due to the risk of frost and reduced visibility in mist or fog.
