Put Pontoon back on Mayo tourism map

PONTOON needs to be put central in the promotion of tourism in Mayo.

The scenic beauty spot has been neglected, Councillor Harry Barrett told a municipal district meeting.

The Independent councillor said he had received a letter from a guesthouse operator who spoke about the lake of tourism infrastructure in the area, including walking trails, amenities like coffee shops, and also the impact of dereliction.

They found it hard to get repeat business due to the neglect of the area.

A five-year tourism strategy is being prepared for the county, he pointed out, and he asked that Pontoon be placed front and central and promoted as part of the tourism product.
