Death of retired Mayo County Council staff member Gus Tierney
The death has taken place of Gus Tierney, Mountgordon, Castlebar, and formerly of Ardnaree, Ballina.
He died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital.
A retired member of the outdoor staff of Mayo County Council, many warm tributes are being paid to him on social media.
One stated: "Gus was a great character, plenty yarns and laughs, always seemed to be in good form."
Another said: "Gus was one of the kindest men I have ever known and I am ever so grateful to have such wonderful memories of him."
A further tribute said: "A truly great character and a lovely man."
He is deeply regretted by his loving wife Rose, son John (Ailish, Westport), daughters Caroline Glendon (Castlebar) Carmel Flynn (Castlebar), Leona Joyce (Canada), Regina Tierney (Birmingham), and Denise O' Grady (Kilmeena), brother Brendan (UK), sons-in-law Michael, Sean, Liam, Brendan and John, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sons in law, daughter in law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
Gus was predeceased by his parents Jack and Mary, his infant daughter Michelle, brothers Jimmy, Joe, Michael, Paddy and Frank, and sisters Gertie, Mary and Kathleen
Gus will repose at Coady's Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Thursday from 5.30 to 7 p.m. followed by removal to his home.
Funeral will arrive to the Church Of The Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Friday at 11 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.
Interment takes place in the Old Cemetery.
