First phase of N5 opening soon in boost for Mayo connectivity

THE first phase of the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road is scheduled to open in the coming weeks, Senator Mark Duffy has confirmed.

The initial phase, a 7km stretch that will bypass Frenchpark, is the first part of a major project that will dramatically reduce travel times for Mayo people travelling through Roscommon and on to Dublin.

“This is a €450m. investment in the road network which on completion will bypass Frenchpark, Bellanagare, Tulsk and Strokestown.

“It's great to see that this project is progressing very well, and I look forward to seeing the first phase opening in the very near future,” said Senator Duffy.

“The full project will be completed next year but this first phase is very exciting news as it will significantly improve road safety and indeed connectivity from Mayo to Dublin.”

Senator Duffy went on to thank the people of Frenchpark for their hospitality and friendship down through the years.

“It's obviously the end of an era for Mayo passengers going through Frenchpark, an area that anytime Mayo commuters were traveling through Roscommon, in particular around all Ireland time, would always enjoy seeing the green and red flags out for the Mayo supporters.”

He was also keen to acknowledge the work of Wills Brothers who are delivering this major investment in road infrastructure for the west, congratulating the Mayo-based contractors on their delivery of the project which will drastically improve road safety and travel times between Mayo and the capital.
