Ballintubber Abbey: A number of people have fallen on the path outside the local cemetery.

Footpath issues in Castlebar Municipal District raised with council

ISSUES with a number of footpaths in the Castlebar Municipal District have been raised with council officials.

They include the path outside Ballintubber Cemetery where a number of falls have been highlighted by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne.

“What has to happen to have it repaired?” he asked. “It is really serious.”

Chestnut Grove in Castlebar is another area, with residents unhappy with a number of sections not being done, said Councillor Harry Barrett.

The extension of the footpath out the Westport Road to Shaws Garden Centre was touched on by Councillor Donna Sheridan and Councillor Blackie Gavin.

Proposals for footpaths in the MD have been circulated to members.

On Ballintubber Cemetery specifically, the section of path at issue will be corrected in the next two to three weeks.
