Warm Mayo tributes to much-loved Ellen O'Brien on her passing

The death of Ellen O’Brien (née McGinty), better known as Eileen, Derrycoosh, Islandeady, Castlebar, and formerly of Claggan, Ballycroy, is deeply regretted.

An affable and much-loved personality, she be sadly missed by her heartbroken husband William, son Donald and daughter Sharon, grandchildren Claire and Steven and her great-granddaughter of two weeks Robyn, daughter-in-law Sandra O’Brien, son-in-law Sean Treacy, brothers Pat (Birmingham UK), Frank (Ballycroy) and John (Ballycroy), sisters Mary Bridget Boylan (Dublin) and Christina Prichard (Dublin), godchild Margaret, her nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many friends, to whom sympathy is extended.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary and her brothers Mattie, Peter and Michael.

Many lovely tributes have been to Ellen on social media since her passing.

One described her as "an amazing woman who exuded positivity."

"I always thought of Eileen as a force of nature, unstoppable, highly energetic, and unforgettable person with a powerful personality. She was all this and more," the tribute added.

Requiem Mass took place today in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
