Water burst affecting 400 customers in Mayo county town this evening

UISCE Éireann crews are responding to a burst water main in Castlebar which is affecting supply to customers in the Pontoon Road area of the town this evening.

Approximately 400 customers in the Pontoon Road and surrounding areas of Ross and Crimlin will be without water this evening as a result of this burst.

Crews are currently mobilising to site and will shortly commence work to isolate and repair the burst main. It is estimated that repairs will be complete by 11 p.m. tonight (Wednesday).

For the repair works to be carried out safely, traffic management measures will be required. These will be located at the site of the burst outside the Sacred Heart Hospital on the Pontoon Road.

Uisce Éireann has diverted available water to the Sacred Heart Hospital to ensure the hospital’s supply, and is continuing to liaise with hospital management.

Colette Scahill of Uisce Éireann has assured impacted customers that all efforts will be made to restore normal supply as quickly as possible.

“We acknowledge the impact of an unplanned outage on our customers. This is a significant burst, but we are making every effort to repair the main and restore a full supply as soon as possible,” she said.
